Disney’s Tarzan, also known as the Tarzan Action Game, emerged as a platformer fashioned by Eurocom Developments and released by Disney in 1999. Initially available for PlayStation and Windows, it later found its way to the Nintendo 64 console.
Following the footsteps of Disney’s Aladdin, The Lion King, and partially Disney’s Hercules, the studio transformed the beloved animated film, which debuted the same year, into a side-scrolling platformer. Notably, Tarzan’s innovation lies in its adoption of 3D graphics, utilizing filled polygons. However, despite the 3D aesthetic, gameplay remains confined to a single direction (horizontal), technically classifying it as 2.5D graphics. While the third dimension doesn’t significantly impact gameplay, it contributes to crafting a more immersive environment and enhancing parallax scrolling.
Within the game, players guide the youthful Tarzan through various actions, including jumping, hurling fruits at adversaries, ground slamming to uncover hidden areas, and breaking objects. With adjustable difficulty settings—ranging from easy to hard—the game caters to a wide audience, making it suitable for both children and adults alike.
Although an older title, Tarzan was tailored for the 3Dfx Voodoo Glide card. To run it on Windows 7 and 10, users can employ the Nglide wrapper, which requires installation for compatibility. If you haven’t installed it yet, ensure to do so beforehand.
